"A treasure today an heirloom tomorrow"
Titled Winnie The Little Lost Giraffe
Little Winnifred belonged to a little girl called Sally. The pair were always together playing in the yard, running in the fields. Sally often wished she could take Winnie to school but Mother said she had to wait at home just incase she got lost.
As It was coming to the end of Summer term all the children where going to the local park for a teddies bear picnic and were allowed to bring their favourite animal or doll. The park itself was quite large with a sailing lake in the centre. Often Mother would take Sally and Winnie to feed the ducks.
Sally was so looking forward to going so she could show her best friend Emily, Winnie. Sally got up really early and dressed Winnie in a lovely red dress with a white frilly pinafore and cream little shoes. My she said to Winnie don't you look adorable giving her a hug.
They both sat down to breakfast while Mummy made Sally's favourite strawberry Jam sandwiches. Mother then packed the basket with cakes and homemade lemonade along with the large stripped blanket.
Off they set down the garden path. Hold my hand said Mummy making there way down Hickory Lane towards Hoylake Park. Can I go on the boats Mummy? Said Sally. I suppose so said Mother since you have been a very good girl and held my hand all the way to the park.
When they arrived Sally went to see her friend Emily and to show her Winnie while Mother laid the blanket ready for the picnic.
Sally and her little friend Emily came and joined them with her bear Jasper. Jasper sat by Winnie and shared a strawberry jam sandwich. Mmmm you like that don't you Winnie said Sally. What about you jasper do you like? Said Emily
Can we go play on the swings said Sally. Yes you may but please be careful. Said Mother. Off the little skipped with Winnie and Jasper swinging in their hands. You sit there Winnie while I play on the swings said Sally. Winnie was propped against the wooden fence looking at the Sally as she went high in the sky.
Next Sally was on the merry-go-round saying to Emily spin me faster and faster. Then it was the climbing frame and onto the wooden rockers. Sally was having such great fun when suddenly they noticed some of the other children feeding the ducks. Quick Emily said Sally lets gets some bread and off they ran, leaving poor Winnie propped against the fence. Poor old Winnie Sally had forgot to pick her up. When all of a sudden Winnie heard voices of a Man saying look what's someones forgot. Winnie felt someone grab her and put her a in a bag. The bag was dark and Winnie didn't know where she was going. Finally she stopped and the bag was placed on the floor she could hear voices but none of them sounded like Sally's or Mothers. Then the bag opened and Winnie was lifted out. My you are a pretty thing I am sure someone will you. Said a lady with bright red lipstick. Placing Winnie on a shelf which was full of toys, hats and scarfs. On the opposite shelf was a little doll with blonde hair covered in cobwebs. She looked ever so sad. Winnie whispered what wrong little one? I once belonged to a little girl called Harriott but I guess she has forgotten about me as I have been here a very long time. Oh no said Winnie how sad I hope she comes and collect you soon. My Sally will be here shortly to collect me. The sun went down and darkness fell upon little room where Winnie sat. Oh Sally please come and get me she thought I don't want to be alone.

Winnifred is appox 22inches tall and made using a short golden mohair. Five way cotter pin jointed which means she can move her arms, leg and head. She is filled with a mixture of fibre, wood wool and small steel shots which gives her a nice weight and texture. Winnifred is wonderfully distressed to look like she came out of an old trunk in the attic but she is newly made by me and is my original design & pattern. This auction is for the Giraffe only!
Her mohair has been hand tinted to give an aged look. Her foot pads & ears are suede, then aged & tinted. She has black german glass eyes and then hand shaded. Her nose is stitched with black thread and then I applied my color wax technique on it to make it look even older. Her little horns are made from rusty screws with knitted covered balls. Her mane has been made using a piece of scrap fabric that has been gently aged. She wears a lace bow with a rusty bell, little red and white vintage slip dress with a pretty white pinafore which has been gently aged to keep in style with the whimsical giraffe. I attached one of my signature sewn in labels and will also included name date to show she is original and came from me. She is shown standing but cannot stand alone without help. All my work, including clothing & accessories is for the Adult collector and is not intended for children. This auction is for the Giraffe ONLY! She would look fabulous sitting on a vintage cabinet or shelf with your other antique patriotic toys & accessories!
